Just like you see on TV, Providence’s Bay Colony Dog Show is a great opportunity for dog lovers of all ages to holiday shop, spot over 160 American Kennel Club (AKC) dog breeds under one roof, and watch the nation’s top purebred dogs compete for “Best in Show” each day.

Sponsored by Pedigree, the dog show is a great place to meet responsible dog breeders and learn how to be a responsible dog owner. Don’t hesitate to ask questions at the Club table near Pedigree, and gather breed-specific information. Find out more about your favorite breed’s health, grooming, exercise, and more.

One exciting element of this year’s show is a chance to meet the nation’s top purebred dog breeders at “Meet the Breeds,” a noontime weekend demonstration designed to introduce you to popular and unique AKC breeds.

Experts will tell you about the history of and standards for their breed, and you can ask questions and meet these friendly canines. This is a great time to find out what breed is right for you. Another great resource is the Pedigree Select-A-Dog kiosk at the Pedigree booth. A computer takes you through a series of questions, then recommends breeds for you to explore further.

2010 demonstrations include:

"Training You To Train Your Dog" by Julie Rembrandt-Seeley, (11a and 2p Thurs, Fri, Sat). Ever wonder how dog trainers work their magic? Ms. Rembrandt-Seeley and other expert dog trainers share tips on dog training and answers your questions.

Daily Agility Demonstrations (all days, 10a & 1:30p) by expert Lois Tolley of Ivoryton, CT. Lois will demonstrate the art and science of agility with Mia, a Flat-Coated Retriever, and Phoenix, a Finnish Lapphund. Lois will be performing a demonstration of agility and answering questions about one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S.
(Note: Agility trials are not available at this year’s show, but you can find out more about how to get involved in the sport. Agility appeals to dog lovers of all ages, and is open to all registrable breeds. Visit akc.org for more about AKC agility or other dog events.)

Flyball Demonstrations by Kathy Buckley, Canine Mastery JumpMasters (Saturday 2:30p only) Come learn more about the exciting sport of flyball racing, from the training and the equipment to watching a demo of this fun and fast-paced sport.

"Meet the Breeds (12-1p Sat. & Sun.) is a great place to get up close with the nation’s top purebred dogs and their breeders, and learn more about what breed might be right for you and your lifestyle.
